What does stress and adrenal fatigue have to do with weight gain?
When your body suffers and kind of stress (phychological, emotional or physical), your adrenals kick into action, releasing the hormone, cortisol to increase blood sugar, so you've got the energy to deal with what is stressing you.
When we have long-term stress, cortisol and insulin remain high in the blood, and the extra glucose that isn't needed for energy gets stored in the form of fat in our fat cells, primarily in the abdominal area. Increased fat in the abdominal area has a stronger correlation to certain health problems than fat deposited in other areas of the body. Some of the health problems associated with increased stomach fat are heart attacks, strokes, higher levels of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and lower level of "good" cholesterol (HDL), which can lead to other health problems.
